For the general manager

What does a general manager need from hotel software?

Short answer

A general manager needs to know, without chasing anyone, how guests are spending, how revenue per available room is moving, what labour costs per occupied room, and which problems need them today. Oste is being built to answer those questions with sources, to sell extras before arrival, and to let the team run the day without the manager in the middle.

Written by the founder of Oste, who is building it with ten founding hotels. Reviewed by the founder. Last updated: . First published: .

Key facts

  • Guest spend and booked extras per guest, from the PMS and the hotel’s own sales.
  • Revenue per available room and labour cost per occupied room on one screen.
  • Ask the hotel a question and get an answer with its sources (coming).
  • A duty manager view that drafts next steps; a person decides.
  • Studio: describe a tool in one sentence and it is built (early access).

What does a general manager’s morning look like?

Coffee, then the questions: who arrives today and is anyone important among them, did yesterday’s complaint get handled, how did last week’s revenue per available room compare, and is anyone off sick. In many independent hotels the answers live in four places: the PMS, a chat group, a spreadsheet and somebody’s memory.

How does Oste help with guests and revenue?

Each guest has one profile with what they spent and which extras they booked. Before arrival and at online check-in, Oste is being built to offer the extras a guest has not booked yet, and to show the manager what was sold this week. Membership and review requests sit in the same place.

How does the team run without the manager in the middle?

Handover carries open items from shift to shift, chat is translated into each colleague’s language, and every request has an owner and a due time. The duty manager view is being built to draft the next steps when something goes wrong; a person approves them. AI never makes hiring, disciplinary or performance decisions.

Questions people ask

Does the general manager see individual staff performance?

Per-person performance analytics are off by default. The manager sees the work and the numbers of the hotel, not a ranking of people.

Can I work out labour cost per occupied room today?

Yes. The free calculator works it out in your browser from two numbers you already have; nothing is sent.

When can a hotel use Oste?

Oste is in build and founding pilots are targeting early 2027. The demo hotel shows the design with invented data.

Where to next?

This is the paper version. What a hotel general manager needs from software: guest spend and extras, revenue per available room, labour cost and a team that runs on its own.

  • I run a hotel

Put your hotel forward for one of ten founding places. Shape how it’s built, and go live first. Founding pilots are targeting early 2027.

  • I work on the floor

See the phone app as it is designed, with example data. Nothing to sign up for. If you like it, tell your manager.

  • I build hotel software
